If you're a Buckeye fan there are a couple of new calendars that will definitely catch your eye.
The two calendars, "Campus Men® of the Scarlet and Gray" and "Women of the Scarlet and Gray," feature provocative photos of young men and women in various stages of undress. This year the calendar includes four students from Worthington.
The title and text of the calendars might suggest that all the models in the calendars are OSU students but such is not the case. In fact two of the models are high school students. The youngest, Tamara Huff, attends Worthington High School and is only 16 years old.
Tamara, who has no previous modeling experience, was offered the assignment by Paul Ross, the calendar's photographer, who spotted her at Alum Creek Beach last summer. She said although she was apprehensive at first, it has turned out to be a positive experience.
"I'm really kind of surprised I haven't gotten any negative feedback since I'm only 16 and it's a college calendar," she said.
Tamara's father admits he and his wife were a little skeptical when they were approached by Ross but finally gave their permission after being assured the shots would be tasteful and not involve any full or partial nudity.
High school principal William Northrup said there have been no problems regarding the calendar among Huff's fellow students.
Tamara plans to do more modeling and has already received several offers since the calendar was released.
Kristin Herold, a 1988 graduate of Worthington High School, is currently an OSU Junior majoring in fashion merchandizing. She was discovered at Worthington Square Shopping Center where she works part-time. Her photo along with most of the shots that appear in the calendars were taken during a week-long trip to St. Petersburg, Florida, last summer.
In addition to the ladies, two of the male models are from Worthington. Cyrus McKinney is a 1988 graduate of Worthington High School and Craig Shemenski is a 1986 graduate.
Both are currently students at OSU and report getting favorable feedback from the calendar. Shemenski, who was chosen after a friend sent in his picture, said even his grandma likes the picture.
Ohio State University has officially disassociated themselves from the calendars ever since they appeared a few years ago.
Spokeswoman Ruth Gerstner maintains "the university has no position on the calendars," but said she wants people to understand, "they're not ours."
