Three Westerville graduates in OSU Women of Scarlet and Gray calendar

Walk into a book store at Ohio State University and you might see three Westerville women revealing slightly more than their scholarly attributes.

The women, clad in bathing suits, are models in College ImageCorp's Women of the Scarlet and Gray calendar for 1991. The calendar, which is distributed throughout Ohio, features 16 female OSU students.

"The other day I had a friend tell me ÔIt was weird, I was driving down the street and looked into Longs' Bookstore and there you were, staring back at me,'" said Jill O'Donnell, who is featured on the cover.

O'Donnell said most of her friends and family have supported her photo in the calendar, even though her pose is somewhat risque.

"My father took the calendar into work and sold it," she said.

The students make money by selling the calendars, which they bought at wholesale prices, said O'Donnell, who graduated from Westerville South High School in 1986.

She said her friends at college usually don't talk about the calendar and not too many people on campus recognize her on the street.

However, the calendar's coordinator, Sean Ashbrook, hired her when she was walking down the street.

"I was walking down High Street one day and Sean and a friend of his stopped me and wanted to know if I would pose for some photos," she said. "At first I thought he was weird and then he talked for about 15 minutes and gave me his card.

"I called him later and decided to let him take the photos."

Amy Mace, a 1988 Westerville North graduate, said her mother saw an article in a newspaper asking for models for the calendar. She gave Mace the article and told her she should try out.

Mace said because of a birth defect she walks with a limp, so her mother thought the calendar would give her confidence.

"I didn't even want to attempt to it but my mom said, ÔYou don't know until you try,'" she said. "I call Sean up and told him straight out about my walk and he told me to come in anyway.

"My friends and family are very proud of me and it gave me a chance to boost my confidence."

Wahlea Bradley, who lives her parents Rick and Linda Bradley in Westerville, also appears in the calendar.
