College Pinup Calendars Breaking New Ground

Cabot Rea: It was the first day of class, which could mean one thing. About every other year they come out with a calendar which highlights a lot of the men and women at Ohio State University.

That idea is not really anything new. For years we've seen them in their cardigan sweaters and argyle turtlenecks, ya know, very colegiate looking.

But the way they are dressed this year, well, this year's calendar is breaking new ground.

Student Fan: "Awestruck to say the least. I hope they're in my classes, if nothing else."

Cabot: Student models were shot this summer by a Columbus professional. The calendar is the second by the student run College Images business. Both the men and the Women's edition costs about nine dollars retail and this edition will be found far beyond High Street.

Sean Ashbrook, Calendar Marketing Manager: "Well, what we see this year is the need to do a reprint. We are distributed around the state of Ohio this year, not only in the Columbus bookstores, but in every Waldenbook Stores around the state of Ohio, so we are expecting to sell a lot."

Student Fan: "Yeah, he's pretty nice."

Cabot: Several years ago, the University restricted the use of any official school logos as a part of the calendar. This could be the most provocative one yet, sophomore model Brooke Ayars sees it as a plus for OSU.

Brooke Ayars: "Everything in this calendar was done in good taste. I mean there's no tacky pictures, nothing, everything was done in good taste, and I think it throws off a positive image."

Cabot: The women's calendar is already available at Long's and Ozz's on High Street, and tommorow will be joined by the mail edition, leaving senior radiology major, turned cover boy Mark Grogg to wrestle with his campus-wide fame.

Cabot: Have you had a few girls already come up today and ask you for your room number or phone number?

Mark Grogg: "The door is unlocked."
