Dublin Ohio Student Appears As OSU calendar girl
Dubliner is OSU calendar girl
Marina Sbrochi, a Dublin native and sophomore at Ohio State University, has achieved a bit of notoriety as "Ms. December" in the 1992 edition of the "Women of the Scarlet & Gray" calendar.
Marina and 11 other girls - including football coach John CooperÕs daughter Cindy - are featured in the fourth edition of a pin-up calendar which highlights female OSU students.
When first approached on the OSU campus by student publisher Sean Ashbrook, Marina declined the offer to pose for the calendar, but changed her mind after discussing it with friends and family. "My mom thought it was a really great idea; she was really excited," Marina said. And when she discovered her girlfriend had also been invited, the two of them decided to do it together.
According to Ashbrook, each of the girls that were chosen as "Scarlet & Gray" models were required to pay a fee of $399.99 for which they received a quantity of calendars at wholesale prices. Marina reports that after 40 calendars are sold at retails prices, she beings to make a modest profit. She also reports, "I havenÕt had much time to sell the calendars, but in less than 2 hours, I sold 23 to tailgaters at the OSU-Iowa game."
Photography sessions for the calendar took place in Key West last July, where the models relaxed at the Casa Gato Mansion and enjoyed the warm south Florida climate. Ashbrook, who handled all the photography chores, said it was a great deal of fun, but it was also very hot and a lot of work. "We stayed an extra two days because the girls were having so much fun," he recalled.
Marina said it was a great place to stay and a wonderful experience, but when asked if she would do it again she replied, "IÕm not really interested in a modeling career. I might pose for something like a department store ad if somebody offered me a lot of money, but I would never consider a "Playboy" calendar or anything like that. YouÕll notice in SeanÕs calendar, IÕm covered from head to toe (by a beach blanket)."
Marina attended St. AndrewÕs elementary school in Upper Arlington and graduated from Dublin High School in 1990. After graduation, she considered Colorado State, but ultimately chose to attend college in her home town. She is currently in her second year of pre-pharmacy at Ohio State University and plans to pursue a career in pharmacology.
